About:
This two-day course will focus on techniques for hand-building with porcelain, and explore ways to combine ceramics with mixed media and found-objects to create unique compositions.

We will explore techniques for using nature as inspiration for pieces using porcelain, including; modelling pieces inspired by natural forms; pinching; rolling; using coloured porcelain and slips; and using nichrome wire. You will also investigate how mixed media and found objects (such as twigs, feathers, seed pods, or beach finds) can be used and combined with porcelain pieces you make. Running the course over two Saturdays allows for a firing in-between and means you can use your fired pieces in the second session.

  • The first day will focus on working with porcelain to create unique pieces; investigating creating porcelain pieces for a composition and/or vessels for adding mixed media handles
  • There will be a firing in-between
  • When you return for the second day, we will focus on working with found objects and investigating ways to combine these with your ceramics to create a unique composition or mixed-media piece
