The work is inspired by the colours and tones of the Sussex landscape where the flint and chalk fields of the South Downs provide a distinctive backdrop. The addition of willow, twigs and other natural materials in my collection further connect my work to the local landscape and, for me, represents embracing a connection to place and an enduring sense of home and belonging.
Willow Flint vessel
£100.00
Hand-thrown flint-black unglazed porcelain vessel with willow twigs.
The vessel is approximately h12 cm x w8 cm
The piece is made from oxide-stained porcelain and thrown on the potter’s wheel; then small hand-rolled porcelain loops are added to the rim. The vessel is high-fired to 1270c and left unglazed giving the vessel the eggshell-like finish of the dark porcelain. After being fired, natural materials are gathered to complement the piece – for this vessel willow twigs have been added to the top. The surface of the vessel has fine lines produced by the movement of the hand when the pieces is thrown and then turned on the wheel. There are also natural fluctuation in tone and texture due to the hand-made nature of the piece.
This piece can hold water and can be used for flowers or just as a decorative object. The piece be cleaned with a duster or damp cloth if required
