The piece is made from creamy white porcelain thrown on the potter’s wheel. The vessel is high-fired and left unglazed giving it a soft finish. A carved beech twig has been added to the top with a tiny hand-made ‘bud’ and other pieces in coloured porcelain, attached – creating a small world to peer into.
The work is inspired by the colours and tones of the Sussex landscape where the flint and chalk fields of the South Downs provide a distinctive backdrop.
